Alice
I am addicted to periodicals, but I don't buy womens or fashion magazines. I have nothing against them, they just don't interest me at all.
But Alice Waters. In Elle, of all places.
In my heart of hearts I regard her more reverently than Martha Stewart, or Ina, or anybody. (Oh, please don't tell Martha.) She is truly a legend...having "promoted for decades lessons that have suddenly taken root like dandelions...artisanal, ingredient-focused, locally sourced, farm-to-table."
The patron saint of slow food. Have you seen The Art of Simple Food? Who was it that wrote something about how sometimes you find that the DNA of the book lines up perfectly with yours, and upon holding it for the first time you feel like you've read and re-read it a million? It is intensely beautiful. The illustrations, the simplicity of the text, the way the book is divided by seasons and methods...roasting, braising...it's mouthwatering.
Number one restaurant dream: Chez Panisse. I've got to get out there.
